That time when I geeked out at The Scarefest Convention

And now for something completely different...

Peeking out of door 221B Baker Street Sherlock Holmes

And yes, I am stepping out of 221B Baker Street. Awesome-sauce.

This past weekend I went to my first con in 20 years, I'm sad to say. I have been missing a lot! The Con I attended was The ScareFest. While I am no longer a huge horror movie fan, I still love the classics and love dark yet beautiful creations, so I thought this might be fun.

Also, two of my favorite shows are Face Off on the sci-fi channel and American Horror Story. People from both of the shows were attending the event - which made me a little giddy, I have to admit.

I'm going to share lots of photos from the event because it was awesome.  It ended up being a wonderful girl bonding weekend.

Day one:
I attended with my "adopted" daughter.  Since this was a con and I was going to meet people from face-off, I had to dress up.

I was Queen Mab.
Everything I used in my make up was regular, every day make up – except for the white base and the black metallic paint running down my face. I completely fabricated my scepter out of Christmas and Halloween decorations that I had around the house.  I had about 20 people stop me and ask to have their photo taken with me, which was a little strange, but flattering.

I met Roy and RJ from face-off and proceeded to act like a 15-year-old fan girl! I was not expecting to have that reaction…

But anyway, I got a pic of Roy and me, but I was so excited talking to RJ that I didn't get a picture with him on Saturday.  As a mixed-media artist, I work very hard to learn new trades in the arts (I work frequently with fiber and found objects. I am also experienced in the cold metal jewelry making and I am learning soldering.  I work with all paint mediums (although watercolor gives me a headache), art markers, illustration, digital illustration and photomanipulation. My goal is to be capable of working with any given material. So the fabrication work that Roy and RJ did on face-off just blew my mind. Since I'm coming from the artist perspective, not the cosplay perspective, I have never worked with the materials that they use for fabrication. And I have extreme respect for their ability with those materials.  I guess that's why I was a total fan girl…

Day two:
Sunday was mother-daughter day in the Maney household. O joined me for the convention. I did not dress up, choosing instead to do her make up.  The creepy evidently does not fall far from the tree.
Her make up was done with a white base, normal make-up, and acrylic paint. She had a great time and was not disturbed by any of the costumes, etc., at the convention. She was very excited to see the Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Mystery Machine photo opportunities and she was so nervous meeting RJ as we watch face-off together.

As you can see from the photos, O injured her right ankle a couple weeks ago and is having to take some time off ballet. It's been rough on her, so this little excursion was what she needed.

Hope you enjoy the photos, and the next blog post will be back to fermenting and culinary adventures!
